Contents: Foreword. Preface. 1. Indian presidency. 2. Successive presidents. 3. Appendix.
The election of the President of India and the role of incumbent is gradually becoming significant. To bring home to the readers the vaious provisions in the Indian Constitution and to what extent the President can play a constructive role, the book, Indian Presidency and Successive Presidents, has been attempted in two parts.
Part I contains three chapters
1. President in the Indian Constitution, (it includes discussion on Election Petition)
2. President vs Council of Ministers, and
3. Procedure for Election
Part II contains the profiles of the successive presidents. These profiles are not biographies in the conventional sense. The emphasis is on the various constitutional issues that came up during their tenure and how each one of them encountered the situation. These profiles also bring to focus the creative works undertaken by each one of them which should make them role models for the humanity at large.
In view of its rich contents the book should be useful for all school, college, university libraries, students of political science, and all others wishing to know about the President\'s role in Indian politics.
