“The progress of science and technology development in India, science national independence, has come to cover a wide spectrum of activities related to social, economic, environmental, security and spatial areas. The Indian science and technology development policies are interesting from many points. These policies have evolved through intensive interaction between science and politics. A manifestation of the political commitment has been the frequent release of science and technology policy instruments and formation and reformation of scientific advisory committees to the Government of India.
The book focuses on policies, organizational structure and programmes of major scientific and technological departments. The national science and technology missions are packages to speed up development in India. A brief account of major S&T missions is presented as part of the broadest scenario of S&T development. Since independence a large number of achievements have been made in various fields of S&T. A new and significant aspect is the presentation, in chronological order, of major scientific and technological achievements and events including important scientific and technological days.
This book would be useful to those who would like to know about the S&T development policies in India.” (jacket)
