From the preface: "Dipterocarpaceae is a large family of more than 450 species of trees divided into 18 genera. Of these 32 species and 5 genera occur in India. Trees belonging to this family are very important from the point of view of timber and non timber products. The trees are large in size and mainly ever green in habit."
