"This book on "Indigenous Knowledge" is based on the proceedings of the National Seminar on "Need for Recognizing, Rewarding and Documenting the Indigenous Knowledge of Tribals", which was held in March 03 in the Dept. of Botany, Dr. H.S. Gour and V.V. Sagar. Over 100 scientists have participated in this seminar. The present volume covered a much wider area i.e., of medicinal plants and indigenous knowledge of tribals based on in day to day working of life, as well as on medicinal utility of plants.
The present book contains articles presented by eminent scientists of the country on various aspects of related subject. This national seminar of as a first case of its kind in India and will attract the attention of all persons concerning the academic communities, policy makers and administrator to preserve and document the IK of tribals before it is lost for ever. We often talk regarding conservation of flora and fauna and suggest strategies for their preservation but we never thought on preservation of IK, which the tribal are possessing.
