There are differences among the North-East India with respect to their natural resource endowments levels of industrialization and infrastructural facilities. On the whole all the economies of the region are underdeveloped agrarian societies with very week industrial sectors and inflated services sectors. The absence of a well articulated policy framework led the region to remain underdeveloped. Two paradigms dominated Government of India\'s North-East Policy as a whole. One relates to overstress on security strategic consideration rather than on development efforts in a development perspective. The other relates to the minimum intervention in traditional systems and institutions of the hill economy which is what has led to their non compatibility with the functioning of market system. Since the mid 1990s however uninterrupted disorder and its relation with persistence underdevelopment of the North-East India began to find in the mainstream collective psyche as reflected in growing national level debate deliberations and discourse as well as Pronouncement of special economic packages for the economic development of North-East India. The book attempts to provide a clear cut picture on various perspectives and issues affecting development of rural as well urban industrializations. (jacket)
