"Even after a decade of liberalization, the progress in insurance sector has not been satisfactory. Undoubtedly, in the current economic scenario government itself is not able to provide insurance facilities to general masses, and the required mobilization of recourses from these sectors could be hampered. It is evident that if we wish to have an all round development of country rapidly and effectively, majority funding requirement could be satisfied from the insurance industry.

Our objective here is to examine various issues and determinants in detail, involving insurance industry in India in majority, and partial in world insurance context. An attempt has been also made to critically analyze the performance of various kinds of insurance industry and its genesis with a view to measure development of this sector.

The book is largely consumer and business oriented and keeping with the trend toward giving the students a broader perspective, authors tried to analyze the nature of insurance industry in a very intensive manner. Economic liberalization and its impact on insurance industry is very significant for insurance business and presents the available methods for treating them." (jacket)
