Soumitra Das is a journalist born and based in Calcutta. He is deeply involved with the visual arts and heritage issues and writes regularly on these topics. He had a popular column titled Flashback in The Telegraph newspaper on Calcutta history and the city’s changing face. He has collaborated with English photographer Christopher Taylor on a book on Dalhousie Square titled: White and Black: Journey to the Centre of Imperial Calcutta. He had earlier published a book on the streets of Calcutta titled A Jaywalker’s Guide to Calcutta which became a bestseller. He contributed an essay to Pratna Samiksha’s Gaur: the Medieval City of Bengal c 1450-1565 and the Tramjatra book on Calcutta trams brought out by an Australian University. (jacket)
