"Judicial Behaviour and Decision making of the Supreme Court of India" aims at exploring some significant dimensions of judicial behaviour and judicial decision making of the Indian Supreme Court in relation to the Fundamental Rights guaranteed to the citizens of the country by the Indian Constitution. The book apart from treating the Supreme Court from the traditional perspective, treats it as a judicial system, with all the systematic components and characteristics, attempts to explore some unexplored and novel (in the Indian setting) dimensions of judicial behaviour and judicial decision making of the highest tribunal of the Indian political system. The theme of the work is significant from the point of view of academic importance and also from the point of view of research.

The usual way of treating the Supreme Court is to study the same from the institutional perspective but so far as the other approach is concerned, is the persons who man the court and the way they deliver their judgements either in favour of the individual or in favour of the state. The present book has taken into account the latter path instead of the traditional one. The book has taken into account the judgements of the Supreme Court relating to the Fundamental rights either as pro-individual or as pro-government or state. It has also taken into account the activist and self restraint role of the Supreme Court of India.

The present book is definitely a path breaking endeavour in the sense that perhaps this is the first effort in this dimension of judicial behavioural study, so far as the Indian Supreme Court is concerned." (jacket)
