The present book is an endeavour to study the creative career of Kamala Markandaya as one of the most distinguished Indian women writers who covers a period after the Second World War.

Kamala Markandaya has delved into the world of women who were the bearers of cultural norms customs and other social moral standards. Her women characters are varied ranging from the docile submissive, sacrificial and domesticated to the New Woman who conveys the radical views on dismantling the patriarchal binary scheme and confronting patriarchal oppression so that women live in a world free from oppression. Her works reveal the unfathomable difficulty women face in traditional Indian society and also mark the necessity to make a trajectory of women\'s journey along the road to freedom from bondage.
