From the foreword: Geological Survey of India (GSI)’s association with landslide study in Southern India dates back to 1980. In last 36 years, GSI has made significant contribution to landslide disaster management. In all these years, several advancements have been made by GSI in different domains of landslide studies, be it landslide susceptibility mapping, site-specific detailed landslide investigations, landslide hazard and risk estimation or lately development of early warning for landslides. Particularly, in the southern parts of Western Ghats, in the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka and Goa, GSI has made maximum contribution to field-base landslide investigation and generated a plethora of information, which can be of immense value to further the study on landslides in this part of the country.
