A commonly stated goal is social equality for LGBT people, some have also focused on building LGBT communities or worked towards liberation for the broader society from sexual oppression. LGBT movements organized today are made up of a wide range of political activism and cultural activity such as lobbying and street marches social groups support groups and community events magazines films and literature academic research and writing and even business activity.
There is also concern that gay rights may conflict with individuals freedom of speech religious freedoms in the workplace and the ability to run churches charitable organisations and other religious organisations that hold opposing social and cultural views to LGBT rights. There is also concern that religious organisations might be forced to accept and perform same sex marriages or risk tax exempt status. There are also people who are heterosexist anti homosexual homophobic or are otherwise averse to gay men and lesbians. (jacket)
