Magnificent Delusions : Pakistan The United States and an Epic History of Misunderstanding
The relationship of Pakistan and America has always been paved with a lot of difficulties and more so a whole load of misunderstandings, with reference to what will be supported and what will not. The thin line between nations as allies or not is something very interesting and that is what got me going to read, Magnificent Delusions.
The book can get heavy at times, given the content and the nature, however it is quite readable. Expectations of both countries are at the core of the book and Haqqani the former Pakistani Ambassador to the U.S. does a decent enough job to chronicle the events without any bias.
The writing is tedious in parts; however it gets interesting in bits and spurts. Haqqanis advantage but obviously is that he is an insider, who shares perspectives that of an outsider, lending a unique voice to the book. If you want to know more both countries and their conflicting relationship, then this is the book for you.
