"The book titled "Manual for Knowledge Custodians is a pioneer attempt with a unique collection of international, national and state level and other important documents pertaining to the library services, its planning, infrastructure, operations and applications presented in abridged form.

The book also includes the recommendations regarding the library service made by National level educational commissions, committees, boards, organizations such as UGC, NAAC, Knowledge Commission, AICTE, Medical Council, the Central Government and its various organs.

It also offers useful information on the recommendations of various seminars, conferences, working groups and committees and on the rules and regulations framed by the State Government and its various departments.

Author was impressed with looking on various queries on LIS Forums by the professionals with their information/investigations and therefore was forced to write on these issues. The book is based on several information and documents collected from various sources either from the government or private agencies/institutions.

This volume will provide valuable information to administrators, educationists, planners, library professionals, academicians and researchers in this field. This will also help the professionals who are facing numerous administrative problems regarding the status, pay scales and other service conditions during their service tenure.

Users of this book are requested to extend their valuable suggestions for making it more useful in the future editions. Despite best efforts, if any error remains, the responsibility lies on author\'s shoulder only." (jacket)
