The objective of every planning system, planning mechanism or planning process is to provide a better life to its population. It consists of shelter, food, employment, better infrastructure and health facilities, better education and other basic amenities. These are essential conditions for the welfare of individuals as well as for a over all development of the nation. The prime objective behind the above is t reduce the disparities in every walk of life.

The planning process in India has witnessed the existence of disparities at various levels even the inter personal disparities has widened which is the outcome of increasing inter-regional and inter-sectoral disparities.

In this context, the present book is as an effective attempt towards measuring the disparities pertaining to infrastructure, agricultural, industrial, banking sectors and at the income level, etc. as well at various levels, i.e. at inter-regional and intra-regional levels.

As the findings are based upon very intensive research analysis and analyses the factors responsible for disparities and also suggest the models and polices, it has wider usefulness for the researchers and policy makers. Even the findings are quite relevant for all those have interest n the developmental process and are involved in making plans and policies for attaining a sustainable development.
