This monograph is a novel attempt for providing the ample awareness to the current status of the antibacterial potential of various medicinal plants. This volume discloses the collision of antibiotic resistance that lead to necessitate the use of alternative medicines derived from natural products especially from plants. Plants selected in the present study are well known in daily life usage and are easily available throughout the Indian sub-continent. However, people know very little about their infection lowering capacity. Thus, authors have tried to give the best in current research work to let readers know what they can achieve by using these natural products.
This monograph contains six chapters bearing various topics of current research interest. Chapter 1 focuses an introduction on antibiotic chemotherapy, emergence of resistance and on natural products. An introduction to Vedas has been given. Moreover, the potential bioactivities including antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and anti-cancerous role of various medicinal plants are discussed in detail. Attempts have been made to emphasize the phytochemistry responsible for such activities. Various research works carried out in the field of antimicrobials have also been included.
