With more than 700 officially recorded species of medicinal herbs growing wild in the country, Bhutan is recoganized as a Men-jong ‘A Land of Medicinal Plants’.

Several guides on the medicinal plants of Bhutan already exist, but with its simple layout and clear photographs this book is especially useful for the layman. In addition, experts such as researches, foresters, students and nature enthusiast, will appreciate the inclusion of scientific names and altitude information.

The book includes information on 66 medicinal plants and 80 rare species of wild flowers from the alpine region. Each medicinal plant is clearly labelled and identified according to species, elevation range, distribution, habitat, flowering season and medicinal usage.

The aim of this book is to create awareness of the indigenous flora among the Bhutanese population and to inform them of the significance of each medicinal plant found within our pristine land. It represents a minor gesture in such a huge field of study, but it is hoped that it can at least contribute in some small way to the preservation of a precious wisdom for future generations.
