Gorkhas are best known for their history of bravery and strength in the British Army Brigade of Gurkhas and the Indian Army. After Indian independence six Gurkha regiments joined the post-independent Indian Army. Four Gurkha regiments were transferred to the British Army. The Gorkha has made significant contribution in wars as well as in peace keeping operations.

Aim of this book is to prepare a history of their origin, expansion and contribution in various campaigns with  their decorations and achievements. Effort is made to select important aspects in the short span of this volume." (jacket)
