The Nyaya-Vaisesika concept of category of Padartha includes all things which exist, which can be cognized and named. In other words, all objects of experience and not merely the things of the physical world are called padarthas. Thus the Nyaya-Vaisesika categories or padarthas include not only the predicates but also the subjects ofpredication. Here, we can compare it from the Aristotelian categories. According to which categories are a logical classification of all thinkable objects. The categories were substance, quantity, quality, relation, place, time, disposition (attitude or internal disposition) appurtenance action. All the above ten were regarded as predicates or qualities by him but the first of these ten categories viz. substance is not a quality. It is only by evaporating the qualities in to that we conceive of the pure substance. All the categories of aristotle can be exhausted in three categories i.e. substance, quality and relations.
