"The book provides a taxonomic account of Indian Pottiaceae, being one of the largest families of Indian Mosses has great diversity and variability as well. Informations on the taxonomy of the members of the family, detail description of genus and species, types examined, habitat related informations, specimens examined including those collected by the authors from different parts of India, latest nomenclature for each species with their basionyms, accepted synonyms. It deals with 130 species under 29 genera in India. The species were viewed in the traditional sense where they share characters with others, some are isolated and endemic, and a few have geobotanical prospecting. The attempt has remained focused on assemblage of informations for easier identification, line drawings for all the members have been provided for corroboration, anatomical depiction of stems and leaves for greater emancipation.

This book will help musicologist in identification, others like forester etc. as well to look for the specimens in nature and also in devising management practices." (jacket)
