"Rajasthan, which literally means the \'Lands of Rajas\', is one of the India\'s largest states. A study of the Rajasthan state as a whole or in part has so far received little attention from both social and biological scientists. To understand the heterogenous society of the state there is a need for a holistic approach involving environment, socio-cultural factors and biological variables; such is the attempt made in this volume which contains thirty five papers contributed by a cross-section of leading social, biological and environmental scientists and researchers having a first-hand experience of studying Rajasthan. The papers in the present volume are classified into the six major topics." (jacket)
