Development experiences in India are diverse and there exist wide disparities across regions and states of India in terms of wide range of indicators, viz. income, growth, employment, poverty, human deprivations and living conditions, including education, health and other infrastructure. But there are also wide disparities across different regions within a state in terms of selected indicators and attempts to understand the reasons for such disparities within the political boundary of a state in Indian federation are not many. Born out of the papers presented in the 26th Annual Conference of Bangiya Arthaniti Parishad, the present collection provides an important amalgam of issues that needs attention of economists and policy makers.
