Religion is based on faith and rituals whereas science depends on observations experiments, verifications, proofs and facts. Ritualism, religious fundamentalism and fanaticism rooted in religion are very much opposed to science. Politics in contemporary India is marked by the resurgence of caste politics. In a sense, this is true. The past two decades have seen a dramatic collapse of the old political formations and parties which had dominated the politics of the Nehruvian era. Political parties indispensable for the successful functioning of democracy. Modern democracies are representative or indirect democracies. Human rights are a product of a philosophical debate that has raged for over two thousand years within the European societies and their colonial descendents. This argument has focused on a search for moral standards of political organization and behaviour that is independent of the contemporary society. This book is a modest attempt to discuss all these issues. It is expected that the book would serve the interests of the students as a source of information for understanding and appreciating the finer aspects of religion, politics and human rights.
