There has been very little work in the literature eon the history of sanitary reforms. This book is a valuable text to know about the condition of health and sanitation of colonial Bengal and the response of the Raj towards the same. The author has highlighted the reaction of the natives with an extensive research on the vernacular sources and official documents. Finally it is not only informative and empirical, it also is a well-organized collection of facts with an analytical insight.
