Ethnicity related issues and mobilizations are generally explained from primordial or instrumental standpoint. This instrumental standpoint. Author contends that ethnic consciousness in Sikkim is ramified through historical process in which politics played a determinate role in the creation of ethnic consciousness rather than ethnic communities creating the consciousness.
