From the Preface: " The present volume contains the details of tree species. As in case of volume 1, which dealt with major spices, this volume contains 9 tree spices. Even though, there are about 17 tree spcies listed, some of them such as mango, pomegranate etc are treated more as fruits. The tree spices like clove, nutmeg, tamarind and cinnamon are relatively more important and they are grown in an area of 81189 ha with a production of 208445 tonnes. India also imports tree spices worth about 180 crores. Hence, tree spices are very important economically. The present volume is an exhaustive review on botany, crop improvement, biotechnology and cultivation including pests and diseases. This volume would serve as a reference to all those involved in teaching, extension and planning. The authors of various chapters have authoritatively reviewed each crop. We hope this book would also serve as a text book for post graduate students of horticulture as well as for those preparing for comparative examination."
