Historically sugarcane has been one of the most profitable crops for Indian farmers. Uttar Pradesh is the main sugarcane producing state in India and sugar industry has a bright future as the agro-climatic conditions are favourable to the sugarcane production. In Uttar Pradesh the most fertile land is between the rivers of Ganges and Jamuna. Sugarcane has made a considerable impact on the economy of farmers, particularly in irrigated areas and plays a vital role towards socio-economic development by mobilizing rural resources and generating higher income and employment opportunities. The present book, therefore, is an attempt to analyze the transformations in the way of socio-economic development of farmers of rural areas of Bijnor district by adopting sugarcane cultivation. The book will prove useful to academicians, researchers and students of geography, agricultural economics and rural development.
