"Vast body of literature establishes the fact that sugarcane has a deep root in Indian heritage. Standing on such strong base of tradition leading and governing Indian culture from time to time, growing sugarcane as an important cash crop has undergone a sea change through R&D activities. Such journey--\'move with the time\' gave birth a series of technologies of noble nature. India\'s total cane requirement as projected for 2025 AD is at around 625 mt against about 325 mt in 2006-07. This amply justifies to evolve an objective, practicable and comprehensive strategy for sugarcane development. Such development on holistic sense requires mix-up of rich tradition/culture with appropriate technological innovations.

This compendium is to be treated as a monograph, a treaty of the subject \'sugarcane\' from its various dimensions--covering the interface of technologies for blending tradition with modernity. It should be considered as a reference manual for students and scholars in agriculture, training and management centres like KVKs, ATCs and government departments, ICAR Institutes, cooperatives and NGOs."
