This monograph of Prof. Subhash Kak on the Saka language and Sanskrit is a new perception of the languages, texts, and iconography of Khotan and Kucha which were radiation centers of the Sanskritic culture of Mahayana Buddhism to China and thence to Korea and Japan. He discusses various Hindu elements in the Buddhist culture of Central Asia. The word Hindu for the immense continuity and transformative evolution of Indian culture is now being termed Sanatana or eternal. The author presents a number of Buddhist elements as manifestations of the Sanatana tradition going as far as the Rigveda which is dated to the sixth millennium BC.
