Political economy is a term used for studying production and trade, and their relations with law, custom, and government, as well as with the distribution of national income and wealth. Political economy originated in moral philosophy. It was developed in the 18th century as the study of the economies of states, or polities, hence the term political economy.
Global economic growth has slowed by roughly half since the mid-1970s roughly the period when the neoliberal agenda was beginning to take off. This book examines the changing nature of global inequalities and efforts that are being made to move toward a more egalitarian world society. This book offers an invaluable overview of an emerging field of economics and is a unique reference for students and scholars concerned with economic policy, social economics, work and labour issues, international and sustainable development, or related topics.
