The Shikaras built by the Newars in the Valley are considered monuments of classical antiquity. However, there is not a single exclusive publication on them. Several leading publications of Nepalese architecture seldom mention Sikhara architecture comprehensively enough, let alone their types, building materials or site plans. In this book, Korn not only documents them but also describes the different types of Shikaras on the basis of his own systematic and measured line drawings including the historical development.
