The founders of social work exchanged ideas and experiences and in the late 19th century innovations in some industrialising countries were diffused to others. Although social welfare is viewed by many as services provided to the poor government expenditures and tax breaks for members of the upper and middle classes could also be included. In fact the term welfare is derived from the phrase getting farewell which means to travel to go and to be well. Poverty unemployment unequal opportunity racism and malnutrition are examples of social problems. So are substandard housing employment discrimination and child abuse and neglect. Crime and substance abuse are also examples of social problems.
The students of higher studies professors NGO activists and social workers will find this book very enthralling and easy to absorb. (jacket)
