Urbanization is a dynamic process both spatially and temporarily. The process of urbanization is one of the important aspects of development and change. All countries in the course of their development are expected to undergo a process of urbanization. Urbanization is a finite process experienced by all nations in their transition from an agrarian to an industrial society. The different urbanization levels reflect different degrees of economic development. In fact, higher education is regarded as one of the indicators of development. Urbanization also puts tremendous pressure on housing, infrastructure economy, environment, education, health due to growing pollution and migration of rural populace to urban peripheries.

In this book, an attempt has been made to study various dimensions issues and aspects related to urbanization and development in Indian economy and to analyse factors responsible for encouraging as well as retraining the urbanization process and development.
