From the Preface: "In the botanical studies, the anatomical study is one of the major aspects utilized since a long time to identify the difficult groups of flowering plants. Anatomical studies can reveal the habitat of plant growth and the aspects for the utilization of the plant materials. Hence it is one of the backbones in taxonomy next to the morphology in the identification of the plants.

Wood Anatomy deals with the internal structure of the mature woods. The classification of wood relies on differences in the distribution patterns of the various types of cells and tissues in the wood. The appropriate identification of timbers to the generic level is important as a guard against the substitute."
