WTO Trade and Development
There has been hardly any precedent of a multilateral organization raising as much controversy and concern as WTO. The manner and method, by which trade related issues are made part of the WTO agreements, have far reaching consequences for not only trade but also every major economies activity of the member countries. Most of the agreements like GATT, TRIPS, TRTMS and AOA are full of controversial provisions. The rich countries\' resolve to bring in many more \'non-trade issues\' like environment, labour standards; investment, competition policy etc. are highly contentious. The complexity of issues involved and the centrality that WTO has assumed in the present phase of globalization needs informed debate. Present volume is a modest attempt to examine the different aspects of WTO. It is hoped that the book will help to provide a better understanding of WTO and related issues, specially related to under-developed countries.
